Hi, first post here. I have a Garrett Ultra GTA 1000 that use to be my grandpas. It turns on and it seems that I can cycle through some of the start up options, (though I have no idea about depth and threshold), However no matter what I do it either beeps continuously, or not at anything. I have no way to tell if it's broken, or I'm not setting it up right. I some instructions online, but they were very basic, and didn't help.

I've seen videos of people using mine, but not setting it up.

Any suggestions, or links?
Attached image isn't mine, but it's the exact same.

Thanks.

Are you turning it on indoors? Try going outside and turning it on. If the erratic behavior persists, it may be a crack in the coil somewhere, or serious EMI issues. Let us know if this helps, if not we may be able to check a few other often overlooked issues. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I just tried turning it on outside, I don't know what to set depth and threshold to, but I hit "operate" and it's still not beeping at anything. I'll throw some metal under it and try and run it over all kinds of different metals, and no beeps.

Hmm you might have all metals rejected, the depth meter is just an visual estimate of the depth of the target in the ground. Sensitivity is what you may need to adjust, it might be set too low, or your discrimination is set too high, which is causing the detector to reject all metals. That, or it really is broken? Definitely keep messing around with it, Garrett will not repair that model anymore unfortunately.

I used the gta 1000 for over 25 years...Unplug your coil wire and make sure it's in correctly all the way...Then hold the power button down when turning it on until it factory resets...Probably 5 to 10 seconds if it's working properly..Also check the condition of your battery holders...Make sure all battery posts are seated correctly in the holders...That's the first thing that went bad on mine...I had to replace them...
