Most Underrated Metal Detector

We almost all hear about the latest and greatest. How they perform, how great they are and are not depending on which brand someone is loyal too or prefer. But what about the guy getting started that don't want to throw $300+ out there.

The problem is, there has to be good ones out there, but some one grabs an Amazon/Ebay/AliBaba bluelight special and it's terrible and they quit before they find out what detecting can be.

Lets leave the big boys out. What are some of the most underrated detectors out there? I don't mean underperforming, I mean units that actually do pretty good that just don't hardly get any recognition. Information is out there but it's scattered and like trying to find silver in a trashy park.

What's your experience? What have you owned/used that when you look back, you go, that was actually a good little unit.? I know we've all had some dates your were ashamed of and don't want anyone to know, but what supprised you? With metal detectors that is.

Here's a few names to throw out and try not to pinch your nose. Any experience? These are names I've seen and wondered about.

Fishers, I had the F22. Great little unit but frustrated me in EMI or trashy area's

Quest, like x5 - x30
Dr Otek
The striker z60
Others...
You get the idea.
I vote AT Pro. At one time was a big boy, but has slipped down to a darn good starter detector that can still have a lot of useful life in it in terms of still delivering the finds.

My first detector was the Gordon High Precision from Harbor freight. I purchased it to find my lost keys. After finding my keys, I found a bunch of coins and junk in my yard and that's what got me hooked! So I got a Garrett Ace 300 and found more stuff. Coin wise the Gordon seems to find more coins than the Ace. That makes me question cheaper detectors vs more expensive ones. I want to upgrade but want to be sure to get more bang for the buck. I'm thinking Nokta Legend or Minelab 800. Any thoughts?

It 1,000% depends on WHERE you are going to hunt. I hunt public places that have been hunted for 50+ years and need the high end machines that will work in these astonishingly tough environments. If you’re going to hunt a house permission looking for 4” coins…pretty much ANYTHING will do that.

years ago when Whites was still around, they had an m6 which was their mxt stuck in cj. That machine found me lots of stuff. Now i have two of the big boys detectors, one with a 5x8 coil which i love.

I started with the whites M6 and I absolutely loved it. I still have it as my back up back up machine.

I remember talking with a guy that started with a beep and dig metal detector, and he loved it. Then he got one with discrimination, he used it for a little while and sold it. He said that he was missing things with the use of discrimination and would rather have his beep and dig.
