The coins come out of the ground here pretty bad sometimes, some seem like they are encased in concrete.

Got the HF double tumbler and I love it, but before I had it I used the Manual method of shaking.
Still do, just to clean them up a little for closer inspection after a hunt.

Tried all kinds of containers but this one works the best, plus, you get some yummy flavored coffee, too.

Lots of recipes recommended, including water, gravel, soap, salt, vinegar and even some other stuff.

I use this recipe.

White aquarium gravel, 1/4 full, a little dish soap, tablespoon of vinegar and sometimes a tablespoon of salt.
Add just enough water to cover gravel and coin mix, seal the top and shake, shake, shake!

You can do all copper or all clad batches only, but I do it all at once after a hunt and it seems to work well.
After a few minutes the coins come out clean enough that I could at least read the dates more easily.

The more you shake the cleaner they get.

This container is comfortable in my hands for all that shaking, and nothing spills out.

Works great for me!

Thanks for this.

I've been resisting for a long time buying a tumbler.

Rather use my muscle and save the money for something else.

But if this doesn't work, I'm coming for you. :p

Where'd you pull up that old flamingo pic? Miss that spot. It's now a parking
lot. :(

Those coins, by the way, are from sandy soil. The coins from the beach
are much worse.

I have my ways...I would tell you how, but then I would have to kill you...or at least slap you around a little.

Ahhh, poor baby! And here I sit, land locked with no beaches and have to listen to this.

Hate to say it, but I think you are eventually gonna need a tumbler.

I tried it yesterday on about $14. in clad and it worked pretty good. Way better and faster then what I been doing. I just used a gatoraid bottle,a little gravel, a shot of vinegar and a shot of dish soap with a little water. Shook for 5 min. and they came out great. Good tip Diggr27.

Not just good looking ya know.

Glad it worked for you.

HF tumblers are cheap but if you don't want to purchase one, some guy stated he does what these posters do but throws it in his vehicle so it can roll around some and tumble the coins. He says it works well.

That would be awesome if there was a hubcap you could open up & pitch them in with some water after a hunt then take the nice clean coins out when you get home..

I find the gator ade bottle much more effective than coffee creamer (I jest). I do the same. Works well enough on clad. Never thought about the car ride. Maybe I just tie it to my dog while he gallops outside!

Thanks Digger - good post.

I'm an el cheapo when it comes to buying a tumbler and have about $100 in filthy clad I was about to dump in the closest coinstar.. I'll clean em up a little first!
