So out of curiosity I'm wondering if I should have the legend in beach mode when detecting fresh-water beaches and shorelines, or would field mode be better?

I just use either Park M1, M2, M3 or Field M1, M2, M3 and pick the one that is the least effected by EMI and chatter when going from the shoreline to submerged. There is no need to use the Beach modes unless the freshwater has some form of salt mineralization in the rock formations nearby or from fertilizers or saline concentrations that are making their way into the lake from a drainage source nearby. If there is no chatter when transitioning from dry ground to submerged, I just pick the Park or Field Multi program that fits the targets that I am after the best.
