Been reading about this great Legend detector however keep hearing that the 5"x 8" coil is the better coil.Is the 11"a little deeper for relic hunting? If you had to buy a new Legend which one would be your choice? :research: james

The LG 24 is a 9.5 x 6 coil, and has many advantages over the 11" round coil.

The LG 24 is much lighter, and has superior unmasking / separation characteristics. It is also much less sensitive to EMI and ground noise, so it can be used with a higher sensitivity level. In trashy areas, the LG 24 can be run with a lower recovery speed (increases depth). With the ability to run higher sensitivity and lower recovery speed, the LG24 can match and even exceed the depth of the 11" coil.

James,

I use the 6" included in the pro package, what a difference when it comes to discriminating metals. IT FINDS EVERYTHING. I can pick 9 out of 10 targets before I even dig it. I'd buy the LG24 if I could find it.

I bought the LG24 and I really like it a lot however I do use the stock 11" coil that came with the legend also, I am still learning the machine and the hobby so my opinion of might be a little skewed, but I do like the LG24 allot.

Do dealers when selling a new Legend swap coils and include the LG 24 instead of the 11".Also I heard the 1.09 software is best all around? :research: james45

I have used the 11 inch stock coil for many more hours than the 6 inch. I like both for different reasons, bigger coverage with the 11, squeeze into smaller spaces with the 6. But the weight of the 11 has been taking a toll on my arm and hand after so many hours swinging the weight, so I am thinking id like to get the LG24 for lower weight, and from the excellent performance I have seen several people state about it. I really enjoy the Legend. It’s been a great step up from the Sinplex, which is also a very dependable detector.

Unless you're hunting a site in which targets are few and far between, coverage shouldn't need to be a consideration. The important aspects are separation, unmasking, and coil weight. In addition, coverage is only based on the toe to heel (vertical) size of the coil. That means, the LG28 only gives an additional 1.5" of coverage. That's not very significant when everything is taken into account, and especially not significant when all the disadvantages of the LG28 are taken into account...compared to the LG24.

You'll get slightly more depth with the 9.5x6 compared to the 6", but slightly better separation and unmasking with the 6". However, with an extra 3.5" in the vertical dimension, the LG24 will have a notable coverage advantage.

I never use the 11". I use the 9.5x6 for almost all sites, and the 6" round for "ludicrous" trashy sites :)

I used the SP24 almost all the time with the Simplex, and really liked how that worked out. I am thinking I will like the LG24 as much when I get one, and the other coils will get much less use after I make the switch. thanks for the info.

Went out with my new lg24 last night.
The Legend is perfectly balanced when you swing it.
Cannot see myself going back to the stock. If I want bigger I will get the lg30, it is lighter than the stock coil.

I think the lg24 is a must-have and the pinpointing is great.
