Howdy y'all.

couple years ago we purchased a house on acres with a very neglected farm house, the paperwork says part of it was from the 1920's,and added on to in the 60's. and years ago my Grandfather (rip) pointed out where the old road ran, it just so happens it makes a corner on the edge of my yard,i have approx 150 yards of it on my place, since I've moved here I've discovered a older house place that has been dozed up into a pile.

so for Christmas i mentioned to my wife i would like a metal detector. she works for a "major department store chain" and she had a budget. i wound up with a Bounty Hunter QDII. it came with the carry case and the pin pointer witch i read on several places is not that great.

now i can only sit and watch the snow fall. right up the road is a old house place that we ride through and pick blackberries at, the house is almost fallen it, I've been ITCHING to go at it,

I live just a quick ATV ride from my parents place. I can only image what hot wheel cars I've left in the yard. there was also a burnt house place there too, but it was leveled off when they built the new house.

I was able to take it out on Christmas day twice for a few minutes on all metal. seems there is a target about every 2 feet. found about 8 pieces in less than 10min. only thing worth keeping was a steel flat washer. one problem with the back yard i created myself, we shoot ALOT in the back yard. esp .22 . one evening we had a contest who could shot the most walnuts off the tree. at least they won't be deep.

gotta go, the dog just farted......

Well good luck to ya when you do get out there, I know it`s tough but spring always gets here, well for you snow bounders anyhow.

Never underestimate Bounty Hunters. For the money they are good detectors. Learn your machine and you can always move up to something else later if you feel the need. Just read the forms and you will see good finds made by those using Bounnty Hunters. They are a lot better than the old Jetco that I started with.

Bounty Hunter

Hello, I hope for your sake it's a short winter. I own a Bounty HUnter, it's an
Elite 2200. It cost $139.00 when it was new. I love mine. I also have a Garrett 250, and I use my Bounty Hunter cause I like it better. My Bounty Hunter has "Discrimination". If there is lots of trash, you can discriminate it out and just look for coins. I use the all metal most of the time. My Bounty Hunter has 4 or 5 different sound levels when I go over a target. It goes from a low picth (iron) to a high Pitch (half dollar coins). If you just listen for the high tone, you will be digging for coins, such as copper pennies, dimes, quarters, and half dollars, or the new dollar coins. That way your not digging up trash all the time. Once you get the hang of your machine, then you can start to dig for other sounds. I listen for two sounds mostly, that my ear is tuned to. The sound for Pull Tab, and 5 cents, is one that I dig every time. It might be a pull tab, or a nickel, or just maybe a gold ring. Once I figured out the pull tab nickel target sound could be gold, I started diging when I heard it. And now I am finding gold jewelry. My guess is, about 500 pull tabs and 100 nickels to one gold item. But you never know, that next pull tab just might be gold. Anyways, good luck, and I hope I have not confused you too much. And like someone said earlier, the Bounty Hunter is a good maching, and there are people who like it and find lots of coins, and jewelry. Last month I found $151.00 in coins, not counting pennies, and two silver rings, one Indian Head Nickel, and a gold pendant (14K). I am retired and I hunt alot.
Good luck

Dear Todady,
Welcome to the forum.Your site should produce some good stuff, but I would try the non-ferrous mode otherwise you'll only find junk! I see you have a wind powered dog;I am currently designing a "wind powered" metal detector using methane gas! Will your dog help in the process? By the way does your dog have the name "Fartacus"?
