I thought it was iron, but it's non-magnetic. Tinned or silvered copper? Same area I found an 18th century scarf slide. But also close to a Chucky Cheese token.

Even though maybe "50's, 60's".
Still an awesome find!
One thing Mrs. atomicbrh and I have never found is a whistle.

Thanks all. I had no idea whistle collecting was its own not-so-little world. I'd now describe it as a nickel plated copper alloy round whistle with no decoration or hallmarks. Just old enough to go into my "keep it" box.

Tokens, buttons, scarf slides, and now whistles. So many things buried out there.
Everything seems to have it's own "world" of collectability.
Over the last 5 years here in CT, I have found 32 Brass Railroad baggage tags. THIS turned into a huge rabbit hole of rabid collectors! These tags are valuable to train Buffs. Google it and you will see what I mean.

holy cow, that was unexpected. $100, $200+ each? Never heard of these things.

No kidding, I've pulled dozens out of one spot. That would mean dealing with that big auction site though right? the whistle seems close to old enough to silver ages, I'd keep investigating the area!

There are a ton of train enthusiast websites. The brass tags are very old and have a pretty fascinating history. Just reading about how they were made on the fly is amazing.
