Got me stumped

Appears to be tinned copper. Two square mounting holes? And why are the ends flared and split?
EDIT: the fibers are from the Q-tip I cleaned it with. These pictures make it look redder than it does in normal light.

This thing is 26mm long and 4mm wide, I'm thinking very small drawer pull, or broach.

No idea looks old maybe it was a bodge job for summat looks home made
