Detector prices.

When the Mustang first came out I immediately knew that I had to have one. I bought a 1965 Mustang Fastback version. It was black with a white interior......
LOL My first was also a '65 Mustang Fastback... Bought it for $50...yes $50 in 1977 I believe. It was rusted out so bad the leaf springs were up thru the floor of the trunk. The floor of the car was gone in spots, only the rug kept your feet from going to the ground. Brother and I did a bit of sheet metal, cans of Bondo and fiberglass, paint and I drove it a few years and sold it for $350. It had a small 6 cylinder, I believe it was a 200. Odd how pristine the interior was on it.

My first "good" detector was a White's 6000di that I bought in 1984 for $425.00. I bought it from a precious metals dealer I dealt with at the time. He sold it to me for just above wholesale. The regular price was $499.00. I believe that in today's dollars the $425.00 I paid for it then would be equal to about $1500.00-$2000.00 now. I bought my daughter a Fisher 1210-X which cost $200 in 1985. It was a basic entry level detector and you can buy entry level detectors for not much more than that today. The $200 would probably equate to around $700 now. What this means to me is that, allowing for inflation, detector prices are less now than they were then.

Was fresh clad super common back then?

It came in at over $600 which at that time was very pricey.
In 2023 dollars, that detector would cost over $1900. Compare that to what $1900 actually buys you today, like a Manticore or a Deus 2. Or three Legends. Over 38 years, this is an average inflation rate of ~2.8%, which is actually pretty healthy for the economy.

My first car was a 68 Mustang, which I still own. My dad horse-traded a gun for it, told me if I rebuilt the engine I could have it.

For all you Dodge lovers out there. Here is my 80 yr old Dad's car he just bought a month ago. About 700 miles on it now. Tax & everything was about $100k. He paid cash. 2023 Challenger SRT "Jailbreak". Supposed to have 717 hp. He lives in Palm Desert. It's very weird for an 80 yr old guy telling me "I can't stand when these snowbirds arrive. A bunch of old people who don't know how to drive." I just look at him speechless...

Good for your dad that he still enjoys a nice car. As for dealing with the "snowbirds"......it's probably no worse than when we get folks from Florida up here in the winter and they can't drive worth a lick if there's half an inch of snow on the ground.

I don't actually remember Mustangs back then with a six cylinder engine. I only remember the 8 cylinder 289 and then later came the High Performance 289 that had 271 horsepower.

Ahhhhh, the muscle car years. First car I owned was a 64 Buick Special I paid $150 for in 1974. 9 month later purchased a 69 GTO convertible for $1200 followed by a 70 MGB-GT, a 66 Chevelle SS and later a 70 Dodge Superbee. Now have a 67 Jeepster Commando as a fun occasional driver. It does get me back in some hard to reach locations for detecting.

Steve
How much you want for it ?
