I have the Max and the Pro. My girlfriend and myself just moved to Houston and went to the beach at Galveston with no luck. Any suggestions on what model to use, discrimination, ground balance techniques. Anything would be greatly appreciated!

I just want to point out that I've found many gold rings that rang up in the 40s with my AT Pro.

In what conditions? I've had zero luck with mine in the wet sand. It was much too noisy unless the sensitivity was way down.

My Nox 800 is much better.

I agree with bagebites many gold rings will fall in between 40 and 75 the mid tone i don't disc out anything i let my ear disc out iron i run sens all the way up on dry sand, you will have to reground balance when you cross over to wet sand and probably drop sens and swing smoother

This is very helpful, thank you!

My best success with the AT Max is running in all Metal Mode, with iron notched out. It really is the best solution for beaches. I tried running in custom, and it just "misses" targets. Even targets I just threw into the sand!

So, AT Max = All Metal Mode. You'll get used to the sounds pretty quickly, and it's a heck of a lot better at finding targets than AT in Pro Mode.

Lastly, Galveston is a known hot spot and gets a bunch of detectorists. I've never heard of much being found there, by forum members. Could just be a "light drop" beach. have to have targets to find them!

Cheers,

good on you if you found it in the lower #s
i won't dig them...:D

Anyone have a suggestion on a replacement for the pro that would solve my noise problems in the saltwater but still be good in dirt at home sights etc. It needs to be around or less than $500

2000 hours and ZERO gold? That's insane... or you're not looking for gold.

I'm assuming with that number, you're skipping anything you think might be trash.

I find gold pretty much everywhere I go. I'm at 71 golds lifetime with only 2 of those from a beach. (I land hunt pretty much exclusively in parks and schools).

The other reason might be your location of choice. I can tell you, if you're hunting where people are dropping rings, you're going to find gold eventually. 2000 hours is just insane. In the last year, I go less than 20 between gold finds... and that's on land. The worst average I ever had, was with my ACE350, and I averaged about 82 hours between golds.

Location, location, location, and what you're looking for. That's the key.
