Not 100% sure what you are trying to get at?

First. Quilaty headphones are a MUST at a salt beach. Preferably headphones that keep out ambient noise.

What do you mean about tone break?

The 800 has the ability to have tones set at vdi numbers of your choosing.

All I do is Salt Beach hunt.
I run my Equinox with Horseshoe mode on and one tone. Then listen for double beeps and watch the TID. I dig everything with a positive tid and/or single beeps. Anything that double beeps or has a breakdown on a 360 look is Ferrous. Non-ferrous will NEVER double beep at depth.

I have always run my 800 in 5 tone everywhere. I dig everything except for the obvious low iron grunts. Those melted aluminum globs on the beach drive me nuts. The numbers and tones are all over the place similar to bottle caps. I've dug some crappy signals and found good stuff.

I used 2 tone exclusively. I tested numerous targets and adjusted the tones accordingly. It does make a big difference but takes some time in doing so. And down here many beaches are different in mineralization so that makes it even more tricky. I just wanted to know good targets and bad. The tone settings helped. Bottomline , coming from a dig it all type PI hunter is I still dug a high percentage of my targets. The shallow ones are easy to avoid in heavy trash areas. But when they are deep , all bets are off when it comes to small targets with the 800 using advanced settings. We are talking sand here , so I'm not walking away not knowing for sure what it is when all it takes is another minute to dig it out. When it pays off , you will understand.

Do you have an Equinox 800?
