As you know I recently joined this forum. I have made a couple post already. I started a thread titled "an old church house". A few days ago I purchased a Vanquish 440 and started hunting at the old church house property where I am the pastor. Before I share my findings let me say I am as green as they come so I have put away any pride and know that I will probably say a lot of goofy stuff and already know that the things I say and questions I ask will reveal how much of a newbie I am. Having said that I really don't care, I am enjoying this hobby that I have been interested in for years but just started less than a week ago.
I stated in the old church house thread that the church was started in 1914-1915. The present church was built in late 1950's. I've been told that when the church first started people ride horses and wagons to church. I happened to see a man on Sunday that once pastored the same church. I told him I had been metal detecting the church yard. He told me that a man hunted the front yard while he was pastor there and the man found a few coins. I have no idea what he found.
He also told me he thought the property at one time before it became a church had something to do with horse wagons. Either a repair shop or a wagon depot of some kind.
Any way here's a pic of most of my findings

I don't know what the long iron piece is, maybe wagon related? It was 15"-18" deep. I also found an old axe head about 6"-8" deep. I thought that was pretty cool. I have it soaking in evaporust hoping to restore it. I have no idea what to flat plat is, it was in same area. It's about 10"-12" across.
Found the remains of a clock.
Couple pieces of chain.
Odd ball iron pieces.
Part of a toy gun.
A cool little Tootsie toy along the side walk edge. Also a hot modern hot wheel not pictured along side walk edge.
Close to 30 pennies. (4 we're wheat pennies)
1 quarter, 3 nickles, 3 dimes.
The oldest coin was a 1940 nickle.
A random marble popped up out of a hole I dug which I really liked.
Someone must have done some canning. I found to lids. The caps were metal but the lid was porcelain. I have never seen those before. One was Ball, one was Boyd.
The horseshoe was pretty cool to think just how long has it been since a horse was on the property in town?
I found a portion of a chain necklace or bracelet. Don't know what it is. It was about 5" deep. Has zero rust on it and is not magnetic.
The knife seems to be a modern throwing knife found at the base of one of the only two trees in the yard.
Found a thin metal lid of some kind that says BOYT on it. I think it's a beauty product.
One of my favorites was a US Army collar pin.
From my research it is from WW2. Found it just about 10" away from the sidewalk edge as you come out the side door and down three steps. Was about 4"-5" deep.

This is from 4 or 5 different days of hunting. Can't say I'm not a little disappointed I didn't find any silver coins but can say it's been fun and will probably continue to hunt it. Thanks for looking at a rookies adventure.

Looks and sounds promising, get back after it now that you've cleaned out the easy stuff.

Nice finds. Don't get hung up on the "gotta find silver" mentality. Old copper and relics that are better anyway.

Fun report. You're already getting wheaties. The next hunts will be merc's. Then followed by barbers. Then seateds. Bucket listers will fly past !! Within a couple of years, any gold coin newer than 1850 will bore you to tears. :cool3:

You can only find what is there. I love to find silver but I rarely do. When I started I was hoping for old coins (silver). I would have never guessed that finding buttons would be some of my most amazing finds. Sounds like your doing fine. Just keep at it. Good luck
