I was able to get out Saturday and a few hours Sunday this weekend on two different digs.

At least on paper, Saturdays dig looked to have the most potential due to its location. Sadly, for me at least, I couldn’t get onto the good stuff.

Apart from six or seven poor condition George and Victoria coppers, the only things of note that came up for me… The first, not shown, was a large rather crude lead palm guard. It’s one of those things that are hard to date, but probably pre 1800

An hour or so later a second lead palm guard came up but this time it was tiny..That’s the lead item in the pic below…Finally, the hinged item next to it is a hinge or clasp off a book and could be Victorian or Georgian…

On Sunday, I went on a Club dig at a relatively local site. The farm in question had been detected previously and being a pasture field on a hill farm, I did not have great expectations, but I was wrong! Between thirty or so detectorists four silver medieval hammered coins came up, a medieval heraldistic pendant, plus for me, the tiny decorated buckle below and a Roman fibula, my second in a few weeks…I am note sure gown the buckle is, but I suspect the mid 1700’s…The fibula will be around 1800 years old, give or take a century. So, all in all a good weekend for me!

Pete congrats, you really do keep coming up with the goods.
And helpful descriptions.
I got a 1934 silver sixpence a day ago, not much but perhaps things are beginning to get better after a real poor run.

Thanks Brewster: Just my turn to be lucky, that's all...What I don't post are pics of all the shotgun bases, moo tubes, blobs of lead, toasted coins, tombac buttons, bits of canslaw and all other assorted rubbish that gets dug and which is what the vast majority of targets are...

Hopefully your sixpence marks the start of an upturn, and results in a few more nice finds for your self...

Nice collection of relics! Always nice to have a property exceed expectations. Anybody able to return to it after the club hunt?

Yes, it’s a nice surprise when that happens..

Re individuals retuning to the farm, that would be a hanging offence! lol

There are a few other fields left to do on the farm so we will do those next time..

Going forward , the Club will probably re do the fields again in the future, especially if any of the fields are ploughed…
