Still looking for my first shiny of 2024.
I was contacted the other day by a high school friend who saw I metal detect. She sent me a picture of a metal detector she says her father used and had passed away, and wanted to know if I wanted it. It is a Whites Coinmaster 5000, the one sold by Sears, and looks in great shape. Of course I said yes.
Here it is. I know it isn't even close to today's detectors in ability, but a cool vintage to be sure.If it's a 5000d series I, then : That's a dinosaur and woefully outdated for today. But if it's a 5000d series II, then that wasn't a half-bad machine. It was an excellent wet salt machine, for example. Of course it too is "highly dated", but, if all someone were going to do is hunt the wet-salt-beach: That would still be a competitive machine, even today.
Here it is.
Good thing in the old days. My uncle had one similar. But I don't remember which model. Here it is. I know it isn't even close to today's detectors in ability, but a cool vintage to be sure.

Here is a side picture. I put batteries in it and it works great. WOW, talk about memories. She said she thought her Dad used it twice. He actually bought it to find a friend's lost ring. It does look brand new.I think that's the series I. Not the series II. Can you take a pix of the side ? I'm familiar with Whites' wording design on the side (what that would be), but not sure if Sears ever carried the II, or if they did, what modified wording/lettering they might have put on the side.
Here is a side picture.
