Lowes True temper vs Lesche digging tool

Where did you get the "ugly " one? :gettinmoney:
Looks like you could dig in a rock pile with that, I have alot of that type of soil around me.

I found in a Lowe's in Alabama about 10 years ago. I used it to break up concrete (literally) a couple weeks ago. I didnt have my sledge, so I chopped it up with that sucker. Thing cost me under $5 and I cant break it.

I sharpened it up with my grinder and it goes through roots like nothing...superb tool

Use your imagination!

Any one of the tools that are being talked about here are good as long as they have the strength! If I get a tool that is good in one aspect but sucks in others, I can usually modify it to my liking without buying another. No tool is perfect, but you might be able to make it perfect!

my only problem with my TT is the fact that roots always seem to get stuck in that little groove.

like every time I dig lol

it's not a huge deal, but it is kind of annoying.

I just picked up two of the True Tempers last night @ Lowes. I took the sharp edge off of my sons TT. I was prying rocks out and I didn't feel like I was going to break anything. It is only a day old. Time will tell.

One nice thing I really like is the broad base on the handle. When I first picked it up I thought WOW this thing is fat. But after digging 20 plus holes, I realized the broad handle base made it much easier to push into the soil & through the roots.

I'm going to look for some kind of sheath. Sticking it in my back pocket isn't going to work for very long..:lol::lol: HH

To lesche or not lesche....

I bought a TT from Lowes to use as my primary digger, went out the minute I got home to dig around a broken sprinkler and promptly and deeply cut my finger on the OTHER hand that I accidentally touched! Soo... It is sharp, but the notch at the end makes it harder to dig the hard clay soils where I live in Southern California. I like the looks of the Kellyco digger and will check it out. The wife can have the TT!

Hard 2 believe, you all are still using hand diggers

Once you go here, you don't turn back:shock::yes: Earl

In my 30+ years of detecting, I've tried about all the diggers you could think of and in my opinion the lesche is the best hands down. My True Temper broke the third time I used it. I've had my lesche a year and a half and its good as new, and I'm rough on it. The cheapo diggers are ok if you just dig in soft non rocky soil, but the forked tip really effects digging. Just my two cents.

I had the Fiskars at first but when BigBoar offered the group buy deal on a Lesche and a Garrett ProPointer for one money, I couldn't resist. Both the digger and the pinpointer, wonder how I got on without them. I use the Fiskars as a backup digger now.

lesche is my main digger, all the rest are backups

I carry both the Lesche and my Fiskars in my tool belt.

The Lesche is great for digging, cutting flaps, prying rocks and roots and hacking hard soil. I like the angle at the hilt for keeping my hands out of the dirt too.

The sharp V on the Fiskars is good for picking into the grass roots on a plug without having to pull all of the dirt off the back of it. I also think it's better at cutting larger roots.

I like the Fiskers, it cuts plugs and roots perfectly. I also have the Ames as a backup. The Ames is built tough, but doesn't cut in a clean line like the Fiskers, because its curved and the tip is more blunt. When my Fiskers break, which it will I'm sure, I will upgrade to a lesche.

So I thought the Lesche digging tool would be the end all be all digger. I used it for a couple of days and I am going back to my true temper. Has anyone else had the same experience? I feel like I just overpaid for a tool that should be 10 bucks.

I'll send you a Brand Spanking New True Temper and trade it for your lousey Lesche? I'll pay shipping both ways too!....HH and be well............Jan

I have both the Lesche and the Fiskars. I carry the Fiskars mostly as an implement of self-defense. That is one role the Lesche is not well suited for.

I use the TT from Lowes and a Sportsman Guide ripoff Combat knife. Total cost $16. I just can't see spending >$50 for a digger. I also have a WW2 GI folding shovel for the woods.

While I was waiting for my Lesche to arrive, I bought a $14 digger with a long handle. Once the Lesche arrived I was somewhat disappointed with it. As others have stated, I found the blade on the thin side. It's serrated on only one side and not on both as some of the ones pictured here but that's my fault as I should have researched and specified better on ordering.
Another thing about the Lesche is that it's ok to cut plugs but it's a mediocre digger. My $14 digger does a much better job scooping out dirt.
So I use my no-brand, $14 job 90% of the time.
I am contemplating buying a T-handle Lesche or a T-handle Predator(?)
