Lost civil war treasure / FBI recovery ?

Could it "possibly" be that Tom himself "might" be a treasure finder too shy to show off what he found ?:laughing::laughing:

(just joking Tom, but you have to admit it is a funny "possibility")

I've got a feeling Tom will soon be selling his own personal brand of steroids along with his hats . With that and his 30% territorial fees he should be at least as rich as Bezos or Gates shortly .He sure looks like he's been "juicing" it as of late .

About the only way he could be so sure none of them exist

You guys a riot. THANX for the latest cartoon ! Brought a chuckle to my boring day at work. My wife will get a jolt out of tonight when I show her.

On 2nd thought, maybe I better not show her. She starts asking too many questions, haha

Yes. I already conceded to David, in an earlier post, that you guys are "on to me". David figured out that I am nothing but a shill . Sent here by the government to "kill-joy" treasure legends with skepticism . To dissuade other md'rs from finding treasure vaults that the government would want to remain hidden.

I'm doing a pretty good job, eh ? So all my kill-joy skepticism is only ALL THE MORE PROOF of iron-clad treasure, eh ? :cool3:

Glad you got a laugh out of it Tom  (yep, your wife might ask where you are hiding all that treasure )

In case you didn't realize it, there are 3 new animated edits of you in this other thread, starting with this one -

Actually I think Dave might had simply been saying you say there are no treasures to find because you already found them and are not saying so

......could it possibly be that you have been a treasure hunter all along and even first started treasure hunting as a kid ?

May be your wife will ask you where all that treasure you found went and want her percentage of it.

I am VERY late to this thread however can someone bring me 'up to speed' on this part only (from the article) :

The pair eventually led the FBI to a remote site 135 miles (220 kilometers) northeast of Pittsburgh where they say their instruments identified a huge hunk of metal.

Why, pray tell, did they EVER get the FBI involved in this?

Thank you and I read the article and all I found was this part that stated they 'went' to the FBI - nothing as to WHY they did.

The news agency says the Paradas spent five years digging in a cave on state land, and two more years drilling atop the cave, before going to the FBI in January with their evidence which eventually led to the court-ordered excavation.

I cannot believe they 'willingly' went to the FBI. Anyone with a brain know NOTHING good is going to come out of 'going to the FBI' - for anything...

you can google civil war treasure and find a number of articles on it over the last few years. https://www.bing.com/search?q=dent+run+treasure+&form=ANNTH1&refig=0b1ed8a9e55843a99d21c11549e661ed

Thanks. I'll do this.

I remember seeing a couple news stories when this was taking place but wasn't particularly interested as it had the typical 'lost treasure' basis for the story - and having read about some of the Parada's 'exploits' previously.

Hi Desert-hunter. Yes, Dennis has a reputation of being a nut-case about other prior supposed treasures as well.

But to answer your question, as I understand it, his supposed treasure was on public land. So I guess he figured he can only drill teensy peek holes (and interpret any sparkle as a fabulous treasure). Or run around with dowsing rods or GPR, etc.... Yet he thinks he can't dig. D/t govt. rules.

So once he thinks he's "found" it (past tense) then he runs around to a bunch of govt. agencies for permission to dig it up. Rest assured a fabulous treasure is right there. He just can't get to it until he unravels govt. red tape.

Now, I hate to sound like a law-less miscreant, but ..... if he was so sure there was a fabulous treasure there, in the middle of nowhere, then ...... why the heck didn't he just DIG IT UP ? I mean, ........ Not that I would ever metal detect and (gasp) dig on public land. But based on the show & tell I see on the forum, there's no shortage of us md'rs detecting on public land.

This all makes absolutely no sense. And the ONLY reason you see so many news clips about it, is that Dennis has ran around for years, beating on news-outlet doors, begging for attention. The only "smoke" here, is the smoke that he himself created.

Hi Desert-hunter.

This is exactly my point. All things legal of course but WHY didn't he continue to look for it and keep his mouth shut?

With all due respect are you AGAINST MDing on public land or am I missing something?

Oregon is approx. 53 % public land and probably 95% of my MDing IS on 'public land' (National Forest) at old homesteads, townsites, logging camps, river/lake beds and some areas supposably known for possible historical significance and it is not even a blip on anyone's 'radar' (such as the Forest Service) as I rarely (if ever) see another detectorist when I am out.

There was nothing to "look for" at all. Because he claims he "found it" (past tense) already. He could point to the exact spot, he claims. Hence nothing to "look for" any longer.

So the question is : Why didn't he just dig it up, if he's so convinced he was standing on top of it ?? And his answer is, that it was on public land, hence he needed permission (yeah right) .

Sorry, you missed my wry humor. I detect on public land (and , gasp, yes dig) all the time. And a quick look at the forum show & tell section tells you that so-too do all of us. Does that technically fun afoul of verbiage that forbids "harvest & remove" or "alter & deface" or "lost and found" or "cultural heritage" ? SURE ! But does anyone care , when you're in the middle of nowhere ? OF COURSE NOT. So why oh why oh why didn't Dennis just dig it up ?

But it's all a moot point in the first place. Because NOTHING was there, and NOTHING was "found" in the first place.
