Hi,
New to this forum and new to metal detecting.Just
started using my AT Pro for about a month so I’m still
getting my feet wet so to speak. Having very good results
with the standard coil but I like the idea of using a slightly
smaller coil to eliminate some of those surrounding trash targets.
For those that own the 5x8 coil what is your experience and thoughts?
Want to expand my horizons.

I love the 5x8 coil on the ATPro. It's lighter so easier to swing all day. I also like how great it is at seperating targets. Gets decent depth in the parks, churches, and schools that I hunt. Mine stays on the detector 95% of the time. I think you'll like it!

I agree with Junkminer. I bought my ATPRO with both coils and started with the large one. Once I tried the 5x8 it stayed on the unit from then on. I rarely ever put the large one back on.

I have both an AT Pro and an Ace 400......both came with the stock 8.5 X 11 coil. Though many say that this coil makes the detector nose heavy, I tend to disagree. I can swing that coil with no fatigue problem. Possibly the smaller coil helps a bit in trash infested ground but the larger coil gives you more ground coverage. I feel no need to buy a small coil for either of my detectors but that's just me. The real question I'd say is "will the cost of the additional coil be made up with EXTRA finds" ?

That depends in the areas you hunt. If it is a large area the 8.5x11 works great if there isn't a lot of trash. The 5x8 is better if you hunt trashy areas. As for the weight, if you use the 5x8 for a while you will notice a difference. It is a bit lighter and over a day it adds up.

Trashy areas as well as if you hunt the woods..I’ve had many good finds in spots the larger coil wouldn’t fit. Between trees..etc.

I mentioned that the smaller coil might be better in places with a lot of trash.....I realize the 5x8 coil is lighter because it's smaller but the weight of the 8x11 is not a problem. There are pros and cons to both coils...…
