I've really been looking hard at the AT Max, my only concern is how it would do with salt water. I have loved the Garret though it's been a great machine. Already paid for itself a couple of times over if I'll ever sale what I've found with it. I figure one day it will be part of my retirement!
If the AT Max is a single frequency machine it probably won't do too well in salt. For salt water and wet sand you need a dual frequency machine.
