I found my first silver dollar last week in the woods -- a 1926 Peace Dollar! My wild guess is that the hole in the coin was put there by a boy scout to (unsuccessfully) keep it on a necklace.

The great thing about hunting in the woods is that in MOST “woods”(non-descript farmland woods or woods that probably served no other purpose than being a woods) the signals are few and far between and mostly consist of nothing important. Then you run across something like THAT. What an incredible coin to find in basically the middle of nowhere!
HUGE props on going HUNTING! Too many people wanna sit around....and you’ll never find stellar coins sitting around. GREAT find!

Awesome find! I was fortunate enough to get my first peace dollar also in the woods of MA in 2018. Good luck this season! You should join me, and a couple other forum members for a hunt this year :D

Wow! That Peace dollar is one beautiful find! The hole gives it character; it shows an untold backstory. Huge congrats, and welcome to the silver dollar club!

I have an old 1826 penny that has a hole in it, it belonged to my great-grandfather. I was told that people would drill a hole in a coin and with a piece of string. They would hold it over the belly of a pregnant woman and then they would be able to determine the sex of the baby, by the direction the coin turned. I have no idea if this is true or not, it might be though, they had 13 kids.

Congradulations in joining a club that so many including myself remain on the outside looking in .

I know you guys are sworn to secrecy or something but it's killing me to know there is something going on behind close doors that doesn't include me.

Please report back to us and let us know what's up.
This could be our big break😎
Congradulations!

Another bucket lister type of coin that eludes me.

Very very nice find, DLAX!
I have still not found a SILVER dollar in 30+ years of dirt fishing 🤥
I was out for a couple hours yesterday in the town woods in Massachusetts also, where I spotted a chimney and foundation while walking our dog last week. Had to check it out while we had a bit of mild temps. Under the oak leaves, the ground was not frozen and I actually turned up some earthworms and a spider. This spot must have been a favorite drinking hideaway for local youth, as I found mostly pulltabs, wine bottle caps, some broken glass and a heavy iron window sash weight.
The only coins were a 1950 Wheatie and a Lincoln Memorial. It was good to get out though, for a rare early January hunt.

Would love to find a Peace dollar. Nice find!

Sweet peace dollar. A bucketlister that will probably elude me for a long time. The hole makes it more unique and personal.

Outstanding find! Many of us, including myself, have never found one and can only hope..

Yes. He now has the key to the "executive wash room". Other md'rs will now address him as "sir". And he can autograph other people's metal detectors.

It's a tough job for us in the club . But ... hey, someone's gotta do it !
