Weekend Grand Slam makes 96FTY with some tough questions...

I would like to hear more on the manual ground balance??? I don’t think I have ever done it on the Ctx. I want to say I have ground balance disabled. Something to play around with next time out for sure.

Have you tried running with seawater checked? I heard that this can help in high emi areas???

I have NEVER run Manual GB Tom but will try it in this specific site. I have tried Seawater and it does calm the machine in some instances of EMI,apparently it depends what flavor it is...but I’ve also used Seawater in places that have been heavily fertilized in the past with a slightly noticeable difference. In air testing, for some reason Seawater reduces depth, albeit marginally. All stuff to play with,it’s endless really...and that’s what I like. The way the e-series like the eTrac and Explorers process signals seems to be different, and not speed-wise. How the targets initially hit and release is different between my EX2 and CTX,but I’m not going to speculate on the unspeculatable...and apparently that’s a word!

Good play by play. Good pix. Thanx !

Thanks Tom, I knew you could appreciate that machine rounding up a few keepers. It is SO smooth when it’s just right, but I still have much to do where deciphering potential signals is concerned. I have always gravitated toward a Ferrous sounds and pretty much used that exclusively from day 1 with it,but this Conductive garbage in with all these nails has me testing what works, and I want to know WHY. If I always observe a RESULT without knowing how it got there,I can never say HOW something works. And that eats me alive.

Ha! That pretty much sums it all up right there “unspeculatable” lol

You sure are one tenacious Summagun! I was exhausted just reading your post! Congrats on the Grand Slam! We have not seen many at all this season! just a few IIRC...

Thanks Mud! You know it ain’t easy, and even it IS easy for a bit,it’ll surely go straight back to NOT being easy. One thing I think everybody who takes the time to read, post, hunt, repeat has is tenacity. They say to themselves,”I WANT to find THIS.” And they go and go and go until they do,or at least make some great finds along the way.

DAAAAYUUUUUMMMM!!!! I would have to go back a few seasons to remember my last grand slam, and interestingly enough, mine also included a Canadian silver. Great work my man!

Thanks a lot Cellr, those are gracious words coming from a guy who’s been finding what you’re finding! The great part about ALL of it? The more we collectively know and share, the better ALL of us potentially do. And if anyone thinks the old silvers and coppers and even gold coins are all but impossible to find,well...then why do guys keep posting finds that would make anyone’s day? It’s about pounding,learning,observing,testing,honing...you can certainly relate to this idea.

Killer finds!!! Congrats

Thanks much Outlaw! Have you been able to get out with others in your neck of the woods? I’d LOVE to hunt northern Cali but Tom over there has a tax on people’s finds! I don’t know what he’s trying to buy but shoot,it’s like 30%! He must work for the government in some capacity...;)

Outstanding finds and a great writeup! Nice to see "old" tech still bringing in the goods!

Thanks Wave, how easily the EX2 picked these coins out has me a bit baffled, really. The SECOND that FBS hit my hand it was very obvious that something different was being employed. That was 3-4 years ago,and it’s still very obvious...

Congrats on all those finds! :detector: Absolutely amazing! :good:

Thanks a lot Wolf! LOCATION is always number one. If it’s not there,or doesn’t have a decent mathematical chance of being there,it’s over before it began. Having a machine that is capable and an operator who understands it is number two. How you proceed from there varies by site. To find Seated coins in Wisconsin is not that easy, although people do. Heck,to find SILVER ANYTHING ain’t easy, but hunting hard and staying in the game will produce, eventually. Everyone has their own definition of “eventually”...

Very very nice Kev . Way to monster up . Sometimes a change is needed to find your Zen . Last last couple of times out with you I could not find mine . Strange how when you find it it's like a shooting gallery 😎
That explorer is deadly ! As is your CTX and the Nox but seemingly all excelling in different environments. Like my old Etrac . All proven killers but some days and locations can just come alive depending on what's in your hands it seems .
By observation anyway as I tend to keep an eye on you heavy hitters doing your thing . Amaizing how you or Trappers cadence can be different from hunt to hunt yet after a couple good targets get recovered everything changes and guys like you and Mike an Trap just lock in and settle down .

Amaizing finds buddy .
Here is my little trifecta from Saturday, Bert had a merc and a washington .
We went out in the rain and dark for an hour Sunday night and I managed another rosy but after viewing your amaizing finds I just think it hardly worthy🙂
Looking forward to the vidio.

Holy criminy Jiminy! You guys banged out FIVE and a triple?? How much silver you guys got up there anyway? Seriously,I’m a FIRM believer that it resides in every older site, obviously to varying degrees. But seeing the GARBAGE and contamination in every piece of ground I hunt, there have to be MiLLIONS of silver coins that are just well hidden by something. Fortunately,we have the equipment to recover some of those, although it’s an ass busting challenge which I enjoy greatly!
You’re SO right about that Zen,I think anybody reading this knows what you mean. Things just appear with little effort, even in places where it wasn’t like that before,or the previous day! We just have to recognize those times and enjoy them,no matter the reason they occur.
Thanks buddy, you guys did great! Keep me up to speed on that big fall hunt.

Congrats looks like a great hunt, I can't help but think that the smaller coil in the trash had a fairly decent impact.

Big congrats on the seated too!

Thanks Craig! Now all my mojo is gone and this coming weekend will be a bust! How about taking a crack at JD fairground Sunday again?

Congrats on the great batch o' dimage!
Having a little trouble following all this, so I think I'll sign up for the seminar. Careful now. Hammering away at a problem with tenacity to understand "why" is how stuff gets invented.
EMI filter - never heard of one for a metal detector
Ferrite bead - ??
Seawater - like from the ocean?
Unspeculatable - new adjective...☑

Great finds! I also have a CTX and I may have learned a thing or 2 from this thread. I always run combined but have some spots that I definitely need to check out with 50 tones now.

First off, congrats on the quads. Secondly, your write up along with Air Force Mikes told me how advanced you two are compared to most of us. Very thought provoking. You guys could conduct a seminar in our winter months when we are unable to detect. Might be standing room only.

Thanks PJ! It looks like you’re standing right in there as well! To be working full time, family, stuff to do and still be running 75-100 numbers means that you have a good idea of how to do it! For me,it’s actually become less about actual numbers of coins found and more about CAN I FIND A COIN IN HERE? Especially after I’ve been there several times before. The numbers become a by-product of that mentality. I figure that if I become better at finding coins in VERY difficult conditions, the others which are not as difficult will be easy targets. At least, that’s the plan...
Seminars you say? My guess is that people get enough of me HERE,so maybe I’ll try that when I can’t hunt anymore! One thing I enjoy even more than finding a great coin is helping others in some way to achieve it themselves. I’ve had SO much help and inspiration in my relatively short time in this hobby that passing it on to whoever might use it is just what needs to be done! A great day is when I’ve learned something I can use,it really is.

Congrats on the great batch o' dimage!

EMI filter=RF(radio frequency filter) I do believe these are already incorporated in detector design, but some say they help even more. Maybe, maybe not. If you look on one of your computer cords or monitor cords(power cords) you’ll see a “lumpy” thing attached to many of them. It’s a component supposedly made of a ferrite material which is in some way supposed to “intercept...absorb...” stray sources of EMI. Vague enough? Hack one off,zip tie it to your detector cable and report back...
“Seawater” is a setting on the CTX,you have one correct? It’s supposed to help operation around Conductive salts when hunting ocean beaches and maybe in the ocean too? People play with it for other reasons to enhance operation but this has been very subjective,so play away!
I don’t know what form of speech that word is but heck, spellcheck liked it!

You and me both Chef! If it works anything like that Explorer did,I’ll need a wheelbarrow for coins next time...
Being able to go into a place that you know has been ransacked for 40-50 years and STILL find good coins? Priceless.
