Wildlife while detecting

Only good animal pic I have while detecting.
Rough green snake.
Lots safer than that copperhead

Post your pics and stories of wildlife seen while detecting. This hawk let me get really close at a park this past weekend.
Not sure what kind of owl this was but he followed me around for 45 minutes or so. He was never aggressive but he was very curious about my pinpointer whenever it beeped

Don't forget the chiggers, ticks & or may flies! The WORST!

Ok going to sound like bragging , no chiggers most people here never heard of them , ticks are relatively light , almost never get one take about 8-10 off the dogs per year ( 3 dogs ) , may flies find them near the river closer to Canada .
On the negative side , our beachs suck , rules up the ssa ! ,,,,.HH

These were two encounters early in my detecting days, a baby tree frog and a baby snake of sorts. If you notice the baby snake in the picture was cocking back to strike! Very aggressive little guy, I took a picture and let him be. Sorry for the picture quality, I had no idea how to use a camera phone very well

Wow, an eagle. Those things are huge.

It was an impressive animal. They are really beautiful birds.

We saw it from far away and I thought it was eating something so I had my son stay back while I crept up for a better photo. Then I got close and closer and closer.... and realized it was a sad eagle!

Anyway, I posted it last year as "national treasure found" or something like that. We never got to the detecting site but it was one of my favorite finds while "metal detecting" last year for sure :)

Rescued this dude during winter. Cant remember which type sea turtle he was? Rescued a bunch of baby ones last year. Inland I had a few Indigo buntings I never got a pic of. Swam with a bunch of Manatees while detecting

Manatees!!! Siiiiick!! That would be a wonder.

didnt get a pic

but one time detecting on my property with my mxt I looked up after pinpointing a target and there was a bobcat staring at me from about 30 yds away. guess he thought the screech noise was dinner. he ran off never to be seen again. now I really pay attention when detecting out here because we have mountain lions too. don't know if they will just run off. I always carry my pistol with me though just in case. be careful out there

Saw a big red fox this weekend while detecting. Just wasn't quick enough with the camera. Still has a nice full coat.

Milk snake. not usually all that aggressive.

Last fall at a soccer field I had a skunk chasing me around every night I went there. Taking out a camera in the dark when a skunk is running in your direction typically is the first thought that crosses your mind. Wish I had a camera a few years back, was detecting in the woods and there was a little fawn curled up in the tall grass. Walked right up to it, thought it was dead so I tapped it with my coil. I got up, took a look at me and hopped off as fast as it's couple day old legs could carry it.

We don't carry cameras when we detect. We live in wildlife heaven here, and I'm a wildlife nut and serious bird watcher also collected and bred reptiles for years. Eagles nest within a mile of my house. Great Horned Owls, Screech owls, Barred owls. Pileated Woodpeckers we see them all frequently.
Milk snakes, copperheads, black rat snakes, black racers, eastern water snakes, garter snakes, ring neck snakes, queen snakes also frequently.
Eastern box turtles, snappers, painted, mud, and even Bog turtles.
Grey and red fox, deer, mink, raccoons, possums, red, flying, grey and black squirrels, coyotes, ground hogs galore, muskrats, beaver.
I've ID'd 57 species of birds in my yard alone. I live along Brandywine Creek. Man I could go on. Yea, like I said, we live in wildlife paradise.

We have deer babies out here at the lake now, for the past couple months the deer population has exploded, little Bambi's everywhere. I have to be careful while out hunting not to get between babies and mama's, a mama stomped Molly dog a few weeks ago for getting too close... Molly is fine but learned a good lesson.

As to skunks, I have one good skunk story not MD related. Back in my policing days I was working graveyard shift and was having a smoke break with one of the sergeants in a quiet spot by the railroad tracks downtown. The sgt was going on talking about something and looking north, I was kinda listening and looking south toward the tracks, when a skunk suddenly came barrelling up the middle of the street headed straight for us. It didn't look like it was going to quit till it got to us so I drew down on it and started backing up just out of instinct. I was about ready to shoot it when it finally veered off into the weeds. The sgt jumped and whirled around when I drew my Glock and the look on his face was priceless. Not sure what he was thinking was coming up the street, but when he saw the skunk he started laughing like mad. Glad it veered, I did not want to shoot it, but I didn't want to go home smelling like skunk either!

Attacked by this pair of wild hogs. LOL
