Coin star scam

I think I pulled .75 in modern clad out of 1 once. Other times I'll see something, reach in and grab it and just a couple of modern pennies that stick to your hand.... gross. Into the tumbler they go with the rest.

6.50 in nicks

Here's a pic of all the nickels I found at once a few weeks back in the Coinstar. Keep on looking, Steve in so la

I always check the coin Stars for coins. When I do find some they are usually chewed up zircons. I also never pass up coins (mostly pennies) lying on the ground. I have been about knocked over several times when I stop to pick up a coin in front of someone. The other day my car died and I had to walk home. I found two quarters in that distance. Both had been run over several times but they should still be spendable.

Our local Coinstar is right next to the exit of the grocery store, so after paying for our groceries I'll push the cart right in front of the Coinstar while I check the grocery receipt to make sure the prices charged were accurate, and then I'll glance down to see if anything is in the Coinstar reject tray before leaving

LMAO!! I've done this method, too!!

Now I let my kids check for me. Once my son went to check and he came back yelling, "Dad, I found a silver dime!!". I was great, but shhhhhh..lol

The rounded lip on front of the coinstar can hide a dime on edge . I reached to grab a penny as I was sliding my hand out a clad dime came with it. So now I take a closer look , I use to just glance walking by . ,,,,,HH

That's right. I want to get the word out so others don't have to suffer as I have. I was at the Ac-a-me as it's pronounced here in Philly. I check the coin star as always thanks to the falsehoods I read constantly on this forum and see from 20 feet away, a shiny dime in the rejects hole. I slip over there, bend down to tie my shoe, and like that, it's in my pocket ! I find an empty aisle to see my newest silver.......and it's clad...not what all the posts promised. So I get my milk and 4 pounds of sugar, which turned out to be 4 kilos and pissed her off, and went to the 10 items or less line and waited as the guy with 15 items was slowing things up, when I heard the unmistakable sound of coins being tumbled. I look over just as the sound of rejected coins filled the air. What to do? The angel on my right wanted me to tell her but the devil on my left said" just wait and see what happens" . Sure enough she left, leaving several coins behind . Once again, I tied my shoes ,reached in and had those coins in my pocket as swift as a beach Hunter has a.ring in his finds pouch saying " nah, nothing, jurt a pull tab ". Got to my car. No one followed, pulled out my coins. I pictured several silver. I couldn't wait to be the newest member of the Coin star club. What's this? Two pennies, two dimes, all modern. Really???listen. It's all a scam ! Enough already. Stop with the coin star stories. Get out of my head. Go out and look for silver in the dirt like the rest of us. After all, we are detector......wait.......ists !
Wanted to get this off my chest for my 1001 post. HH
Just because you didn't score a silver coin you feel that others are just making up stories about coin star finds? Every time I post something about Coinstar finds it's the TRUTH. I look for silver in the dirt just like you but don't score one every time. NOT A SCAM !

I have on occasion have found a couple of silver dimes in the Coinstar machine when I first started using it. However, it seems that they were in my coin jar when I dumped them in the hopper. The only coins I have ever gotten were foreign coins and clad when I came upon a machine. The Coinstar machines do reject silver coins but it is entirely possible you can find some that someone left behind. You just have to get lucky.

So others won't have to "suffer", coinstar silvers as "promised"?

Wow, I can't believe you fell victim to your own choices, yet blame others for them. How screwed up is that?

I think you need to reread the definition of "scam" again. Seems you walked away with free clad, but somehow you've been taken hostage... by the voices in your head? :dumb:

You should have that checked out.

I have pulled 7 silvers so far this year from coin stars, have been in a dry spell as of late though, havnt gotten one in about 3 weeks, did get a nice EF 1923 Canadian nickle yesterday from one, turns out its a low mintage year as well....I acually bought a whitman Roosevelt dime folder (the 1946-1964) that I am only putting coinstar dimes in lol so just keep looking, and remember to look when you first get in the store, and if you are in the store for longer than 10 minutes, check it when you leave too....I have learned it only takes people about 3 minutes to dump their change and walk away!! GL!!!

Congrats, that was quite a haul !!!!

I think I remember reading somewhere that some Coinstars have deeper reject trays than others, the one I check is pretty shallow and likely might have coins overflowing on the floor if that many were rejected at one time

Yep, you don't want to advertise for competition at checking the Coinstar !

We can picture it now :laughing::laughing:

No Scam...

Works for real. Its hit or miss... I have pulled hundreds of coins from my local coinstar. Sometimes as many as 25coins per hit... I have pulled rosie's,wheats and merc's and even a few washingtons. I even pulled a canada silver dime once. many coins from all over the world. A few watch batteries and tokens. My Girlfriend works at a store that has a coinstar and now she checks it. She has also found silver. HH

I have a regular coinstar route to check. Last year I got 15 silver and $40 in clad, plus a grundle of cool foreign coins and tokens. Got an undated SLQ and two rosies so far this year, plus a pound of other coins.
Call it a scam if you want, but I'll keep checking.

That is too funny, I do the exact same thing when I check the coin star, usually empty but sometimes there's a Canadian or two.

I'm up here in Canada, after 2 years of taking a peak at the reject bin, low and behold a coin, miserable penny.

Either somebody makes the round at all the machines or folks don't use them as they rip you off with the 11 or 14% fee when you do use them.

I don't look anymore, waste of time. make a better score checking the interior of cars at the junk yards...so I have heard. Too bad as kids we didn't think of that, lots of old abandoned cars in the woods...
