Hello,

I am new to this forum. I'm especially interested in the Civil War, as well as local history in NC and southern VA. I am looking for some new areas to search.

Its nice to meet everyone.

Hi Gary (that's my father's name)😊

What types of items do you like to metal detect?

Welcome to the forum Trina... from the Flint Hills of Manhattan, Kansas!
Hello knsmokey!

I know this isn't related to metal detecting, but it looks like Kansas has a great opportunity to win the championship.

The south, Civil War and local history...I'm freaking JEALOUS! Howdy from timbuktu, Oregon!
Hi Matt93 from NC.

You must be happy that Oregon is still in the tournament, that is if you like college basketball. I live in the midst of Tobacco Road, so it's really big here.

And I find the Civil War so interesting. There are so many tells that need to be told.

I'm not picky, as long as it not too many pull-tabs

I'm not near any beaches, so just dirt hunting, but I'm hoping to eventually find a really old relic living in a historic area (I just have to avoid areas specifically protected as historic sites) and the coin MDing finds, clad, wheaties, silver, would all be fine with me, and I wouldn't object to hopefully finding a gold nugget or ring either

I'm going to have to check out our small local museum again to refresh my memory of some of the things that have been found in our county.

Well let me the first to wish you good luck in your metal detecting, and on finding rings and gold nuggets. 😊

There's just something about uncovering a piece of history that you never knew was there before. I love it.

If you don't mind me asking, what county are you in? I live in a small town, so I think that makes it a bit harder in learning about its history.

We are in Fairfield county, in the town of Winnsboro.

From a historical page online - "and as early as 1777 the settlement was known as Winnsborough."
(it was later shortened to "Winnsboro") so should be plenty of history here !

Hope you have some good finds, happy hunting !

Actually, I'm a proud Oregon State University grad (We DETEST the ducks) ;)

We have an Army fort close by from around Civil War time period (it was established in 1864 and was decommissioned in 1869) that I am attempting to get access to, but other than that, most of our history out here (metal wise) is much newer than what you folks have back east. Hopefully someday I can get back that way and get out and explore.
