Deteknix Full Size Detector!

So how would minelab target children and their fold away detector if they made it just like every other detector out there?

That was the point, they wanted something different

This one really is pretty different , and colorful to boot. Know of any other lower end detectors with a neat straight shaft design , modern look , and advanced looking screen ?. A quality built entry level detector designed like this would be a hot seller. Heck , with not much design tweaking at all this setup could fold down every bit as cool at the gofind series does. Totally unique in its class though even as it is.

I agree with you, just saying Minelab was trying to corner a specific market with the gofinds... as far as the success of them, I don't know, but just saying Minelab didn't go this route like you alluded to because they were trying to NOT have something that looked like everything else. :)

I understand what you are saying , but the reason this one is getting attention is because its NOT like everything else. Its a fresh perspective on a low end starter unit that I dont think any other manufacturer is doing. And could you imagine if this thing folded up into a small package ? I do see the draw the gofind series has for some people , the cool factor....regardless of whether its a clunky design or not , people buy it for the unique design....this detector dont fold up but it is very unique and kids would love it.

Yeah, like you said, it wouldnt be hard to accomplish:cool:

The Ford Edsel was supposed to be a unique design. It was clunky. It may have sold better if it could have been folded up. We all know how that went  Good intentions don't always net good results.
In my opinion, the GO-FIND looks like it could have been made by Fisher-Price or Little Tikes. Someone at Minelab has either been fired or promoted for that one. I guess they could always offer an adventure pack that would consist of the GO-FIND and The Ron Popeil Pocket Fisherman. They both fold up and look "very unique".

you know something the rest of us don't? Or are you guesstimating? I haven't even heard a ballpark MSRP yet. I actually hope its not in the lower end category, I'm banking on it being mid range and hopefully keeping up with the AT Pro. I guess it could go Eitherway, make it a low end detector so you have zero waterproof competition or go mid range hoping people are bored with their AT Pro's, still hoping for the latter.

I'd like to see a good push of good detectors come out that don't rival the price of a decent used car. When I see over-talk of $1,500+ units, it reminds me of the prep kids talking about their clothes brands/cars that mommy and dad bought them.

Good for Deteknix!

Paying $500 or $1500 for a Metal Detector doesn't matter if you don't learn the machine. As far as this new Deteknix machine goes, I like the factory straight shaft and the display is good size for older eyes to see. If I win one:roll:, I will gladly do a review.

I'll let you all know more when I do. I'm looking at possibly adding them since they have so good wireless phones now as well. I'd want to evaluate personally before selling though cause I won't sell !!!!.

This is one of those things, If I can't try it out first.. I am not buying...

Metal Detectors are one of the few things you can't try before you buy.

That's not true...many dealers have shops you can come into and try detectors...we're one of those and have test beds out back for just that reason.:D

Your are too far for me to drive out and test one.
I don't know of any shops in Maryland...

It looks like they have a real machine here on the beach?

Good eye, heres the photos for everyone. Also there was another rendering of the back of the machine and it looks to have either a second coil port for some reason, or its like the AT Pro where that would be the "waterproof headphones" port, which would lead me to believe that the wireless headphones are not waterproof? Not really sure.

I hope the display is readable at that angle? From the appearance this is my only issue.

It shouldn't be to bad, my XP Deus has that glossy screen and its not to bad in most situations outside. I guess in in the right light on a angle it would be kinda hard to see, but you're not going to find yourself looking at the screen from a extreme angle so should be fine.

I mean the head is pointed down. I would have figured it would be in-line with the grip or slightly up?

I was speaking more of the direction the designers of this unit were going in , not the actual product itself. The go find series is a low end product , so by comparison whether this new detector is low end or not it could be , and by the looks of it probably not expensive to produce. The design is its selling point and probably more useful in the long run than the ability to fold up anyway. Though if I had to guess , this machine likely operates mediocre to average , ....like the go find series the manufacturer is probably banking on its appearance to generate sales not its functionality. But we will see.

Was there any mention of what kind of wireless for the headphones? I'd hope for Bluetooth, so I could choose the style I'd prefer to use. If it's proprietary, sort of stuck with what comes with it, or paying way too much for what they have to offer. Might sell the detector cheap, but catch up, with coils and headphones...

Made in China, usually means costs much less than everything functionally similar, been their marketing strategy for decades, and worked very well.

looks like a nice design and cant wait until they anounce it as the new "Deteknix Scavenger AT"....at least thats what I hope as that was my entry:laughing:
