I signed it for you Mass folks, a heads up to others; you only need to type your name, email and zip to sign. I personally did not want to give all the info.

GOOD LUCK People!

Thanks for the update Roger, and good job bud. I was wondering if my day would come when they gave me the boot..

I think I signed this before... maybe? Is there any way to find out without going through 2000 names? :)

According to the petition explanation, this is a petition to stop metal detecting which was to have gone into effect JULY 1, 2014? Whats up with that?

This issue was rectified and Roger reported it that they lifted the bans they imposed... let the thread go back to sleep please.

This post is a year old. Its time to say bye bye.

Haha. This totally reminds me of the "urban legend" that continued going around with "petitions" DECADES after the matter had long-since gone to rest:

An atheist spokesperson or some such organization was said to be instigating plans to petition to get "in God we Trust" off American coins. Or to "ban religious broadcasting", or .... some sort of sky-is-falling claims like that. And even though it was no longer true at some point early on, YET FOR DECADES AFTER THAT: this petition continued to circulate. Doh!

So no more "petitions" where not needed. The only thing THAT does, is perpetually "put us on their radar" as something they need to think of, address, consider, and so forth.

Signed, but I noticed that it said the law would go into effect on July 1st, 2014 and a DCR worker said it was OK for me to beach hunt. Maybe there was overwhelming support NOT to ban detecting and they scrapped the idea?

Right. Well why do people keep signing this then ? I certainly hoped that "signed petitions" waiving red-flags about the "pressing topic" of metal detecting aren't now continually arriving on lawmakers desks. Are they? Maybe some sort of a lock or "issue resolved, no need to sign and fret" flag could be put on here ?

Tom... we generally don't close threads unless drama is involved or the OPer requests it. Members can go back and bring forward threads that have been buried for years if they so choose to and as they have done ;) I see no harm with others continuing to sign it.
