Toasted button here. Still has some symbols on the one side. I'm hoping one of you guys have seen enough of these that a pattern will pop out to ya. Thank's, oh, same Battle of Brandywine battle site.

I'm pretty sure what you have is a lead seal. They can go back a long way. I found one with the date of 1854 on it, but they are still being used today.

Don't believe it's a lead seal. I dig alot of lead out of that field and none of it looks like that. It also has what looks like the shank attachment on the back.

looks like whats left of a pewter button to me ...

to best preserve these until you can clean them at home is to place them into a ziploc baggy with the moist dirt you found them in. this will keep them from drying out and crumbling away.

I think you are right. I believe I can see where a shank was. Old eyes do that to you.

It's for sure a pewter button, but I can't nail down the design. For some reason it reminds me of a CW Marine button. Looks like the high point (diagonal line) that is showing may be the remains of an anchor, and I can definitely see an eagle's leg & foot and maybe one wing. It's the design around the edge that is throwing me off. It's just a long shot, but maybe look at different eagle & anchor buttons and designs from the Rev War through Civil War (Marine, Navy, etc.). You may come up with something. Hope this helps. Nice find by the way!

Here ya go.
