Combining two of my favorite hobbies should be interesting. I bought a Drone and plan to use it to get some unique video/pictures of my hunting. It has GPS so it can be used a a single placed camera from an upper view or I can use it to scope out potential new hunting spots. Took it out early this morning for a test run around famous Boot Hill.

hey hey, right on! congrats from another "fly guy". :D
i've got the Blade 350 qx and i mount my action cam to it for some aerial pics/vids.
be careful with the GPS as some cameras mess it up and your quad might develop a flight plan of its' own.
and after close to a year of playing in the sky's with this setup, keep your movements and turns slow and smooth for your vids. if doing time lapse, make sure you give it enough time to snap some pics of your desired subject and of course, watch for wires, trees, etc, lol.
and lastly, have FUN!!!! they're a real blast!!!:thumbsup: i'm hoping to get some fall photos in the next couple of week, the leaves are starting to look really nice now! :D i'll post some pics when i can get some taken.

Pete :takeoff:

My wife likes to sunbathe in our yard with a privacy fence. What she looks at out there from the sky I have no idea. I guess that is for sky cam people to well.....ummm enjoy their camera. :D

fyi: i don't have mine so i can spy on people! my camera is a set 170 degree wide angle and unless someone is particularly HUGE, even at a mere 100 foot altitude, they're still gonna look like an ant in the pic, lol.
there's no zoom feature on most of those action cams, they're set wide to take in the surrounding action, hence the naming of them as being "action cams".
i have yet to hear any complaints from any of my neighbors about me flying around the 'hood. in fact, some of them have been quite grateful when i get their email addresses and send them a few pics of the area from the air! :D

and to Detector, sorry to get off topic here, i just felt i should add my above comments. also, it wouldn't do any harm to offer your neighbors some pics or links to videos that you take around your area! they'll see with their own eyes that you're just enjoying your hobby and not "spying" on them.

I think the cameras are neat and I don't care what people do with them.:D
I can see them being great also for finding cellar holes and old foundations in wooded areas. "Zoom baby Zoom"

Fly one of those over my property, and I'll do my best to take it out!

that's the spirit!
it just goes to show that not everyone agree's with everyone else's hobby's. and such is the case that if anyone complains to you in any way about your metal detecting hobby, maybe they should just take the necessary steps to "take out" your detector, lol. oh wait, that's already being done all over the place because of lack of education and knowledge about the hobby.......

Speaking of "lack of education and knowledge", you should probably bone up on the capabilities of drones, even hobby drones, which can be used to violate an individuals privacy.

Not saying that the OP has that intention/capability, but it does exist, and has been used, even by hobbiests to invade individual privacy.

So, you might have a problem with someone detecting your front yard without permission, but you'd be ok with them having a drone hover outside your house, photographing you, intercepting cell calls etc.?

sorry bud, not going to be dragged into an argument. i think your first post already showed more than enough disrespect to the OP's thread.

I think there is a distinction between a person's right to fly the plane and their intention. Sure it could be used in a negative way. The same can be said for a lot of things. It could be used to scope out property for a robbery. I'll take the chance because if somebody would want to use it in a negative way there are laws to protect me. We pay people to do that so people like the Op can fly their durn planes. Zoom baby Zoom.

Are you serious? Tell me you're not one of those that sits around the house wearing an aluminum hat! LOL

You can "invade someone's privacy" with a $30 hand camera if that is your intentions. You can play peeping Tom with a pair of $10 binoculars if that is your intentions. You can listen in on your neighbors conversations with a $30 set of Sonic Ears in that is your intentions. You can kill someone with a hammer if that is your intentions.

This is nothing but a tool like the many others that can be used for good or bad. I happen to plan to get some very unique videos of hunting and recovering targets while detecting. I also plan to use it to scout out possible campsites without having to walk there myself.

Back to the original subject: I was a little concerned about the wind here in southwest Kansas. We are known as the windiest city in North America. Today the wind was a little higher than normal so I took the Phantom out for a test. Took it down to the city park and was able to fly it with ease. In fact I was able to take my hands off the control and it still flew well.

This Drone is fullly autonomous. It uses GPS to know its position at all times. Before you fly you calibrate the compass and it knows the home GPS location. Should it ever loose contact with the radio it will automatically return home and land. You can even use a map just like Google Earth and just touch to make waypoints and it will fly to each of the assigned waypoints and then return home and land.

Here it is in the high wind. You can see the trees blowing good.

Here is a nice video showing how you could use the map and waypoints to find hidden cellar holes in out of the way places.

That is a seriously awesome piece of equipment. I never wanted one until watching your first video. I have to watch the other two here in a few. That would be so awesome for some river clips that I need.

Thanks for posting and keep us (or me in a PM) of more videos as you produce and post them.

Doug

that's a really impressive setup! sure beats the heck out of mine, lol.

Just for the record, if one was hovering outside one of my windows. I also would have a problem with it. On a lighter note, seen one fling around the mud fest, and I'll tell you it's a great way to get some awesome video footage....
