They are already setting off firecrackers here for the last 2 days. Already starting them up again tonight.

In this town they will be going off every day for the next 2 weeks.

What kind of activities will you be doing for July 4th?

July 4th weekend plans

I actually plan a metal detecting weekend! :D
I'm going to western KS, where I co-own a half section of farm land. After checking on the wheat crop, I hope to do a little metal detecting on my own farm, where a homestead once stood. All that remains is one shed used for seed wheat storage. The house was raised in the late 40's. The one car garage was used until the mid 70's. My sister says she will let me detect her place as long as I don't get too crazy! Another sister says she would probably let me search their bowling alley premises. Could be an interesting weekend! :tumble:

Dusty Eagle.... (makes a note to buy more batteries) ;)

The city I live in, and most of the cities around Kansas City, have outlawed all fireworks, but it took a complaint before any type of action would be taken. I'm a very law-abiding citizen, but, around four years ago, the City of Lenexa announced that they were putting the clamp down, and would ticket anyone seen using fireworks, complaint or not. That was the first year that I bought any fireworks in a long time, and have done it every year since--sometimes, breaking the right law can be very rewarding!

My neighbor likes to shoot flares out of his shotgun over the pond near our houses and I answer him back with a few half sticks ;)

I can tell you what I will be doing on July 5th... and that is metal detecting a large park where the hold fireworks the night before. I got lucky and accidentaly hit the same park last year the morning after and found $5 in coins on the surface from the night before. I think I can do much better this year if I get there earlier.

In NY state fireworks are illegal for regular folks but people still shoot them off. I've got a bunch of bottle rockets and an old glass hoopskirt Coke bottle to shoot them out of. Could anything be more American than that?

Already been to one night display of fireworks... very nice too. Will be grilling and having fun with friends and family.. some fireworks at home... Flag will be flying and a good parade set up. RickO

I don't care for all the noise but what can you do. I live on the New Hampshire line where fireworks are legal, so they are going off for weeks before and after the fourth. I will be heading out on the Harley during the day and hiding at night. Jim

Might hang out on a beach on one of the islands off the coast of Georgia. Will probably hit one or two spots after the fireworks celebration.

It starts on the afternoon of the 3rd with a large crowd gathering around a lake with a list of bands performing in the bandshell in the ampitheatre; the symphony orchestra takes over at dusk and then at 10 pm the fireworks begin, coreographed to the music from the orchestra. After about 20 minutes of one rocket anfter another, the grand finale leaves you speechless. After the 20 minute drive home, maybe some more fireworks, (if you know what I mean) and then on the Fourth is a mid-morning parade followed by a picnic lunch and an afternoon on the boat (on a different lake), water skiing and just floating around and trying not to get sunburned. Around dinner, the boat gets docked and we join friends at the pub on the lake for burgers, steak, shrimp or whatever, and to hoist a beer or three (cheers Beerdoodle!) and then it's back on the boat to stake out a choice spot to anchor and wait again for the 10 pm fireworks; this time being right under them and on the water. When that's over, I drop my passenger(s) off at the dock and I go back out on the lake to either wait for my turn at the landing, or if the night is clear with enough breeze to discourage the mosquitos, I may find a small bay to anchor in and toss out a Lindy rig with a crawler and just lay back in the boat watching the clouds drift past the moon and waiting for a walleye to take the bait. This can last until about 4:30 am when the birds start a ruckus fighting for their spot in the morning worm buffet and by then the landing is deserted and I can load up the boat and head for home / work. Other than that, nothing much........

With all the nearby mountains - the smaller, closer ones have fireworks set off from them. Probably about 5-6 places around town. The pro baseball park also does that after the game. Sometimes we sit on our roof and watch em all. steve in so az

My GF works untill 2am so I'm taking some mini fireworks to her to set off in the parking lot afterwards.

Well, they moved my towns' fireworks off to another town, one that is filled with, uh, less desirable elements. No kids or grandkids, so no fireworks for us (we live in the woods, so fireworks aren't a great idea anyway.....). I'm taking the Thursday before and Monday after as vacation days, although with gas at $4+ per gallon, it'll be mostly a stay-cation instead. I've got a few projects to work at around the house (including a rack for the MDs) anyway. Oh, and a gunshow to attend on Saturday.

the hunt is on!

Just found out from my sister today, the wheat is in, so there is no problem of destroying any crops on a search at the farm. We got to talking about other possible places, and mentioned our 'neighbor's' old farm house. Most of his place is still there, although not being used for much. She's going to ask him for me if I can do a little metal detecting around the house and such. Could be a fun weekend!. Hopefully profitable too!

Well, I'll be in Quakertown PA with my daughter for a softball tournament from Thursday to Saturday. On Saturday evening, when we get home my town puts on a very nice fireworks show which is seen nicely from my front yard. So we will be watching from there.:D

got 'skunked'

Been a long weekend.
I did get to the farm.. only to discover I have a milo crop growing in the field where the old 'farm stead' was. I still went out and searched a little between the rows.. and my Ace150 was going off like the fireworks lit this weekend. So I turned down to the discrimination level and tried to search for something in the the 6" depth range. I found a chunk of a disk, and the screw top to a salt shaker. Oh.. and about every pop top and pop can I left there back in the '70's. (At least it seemed that way.) There's potential there, but I'm going to wait till fall, after the harvest is in. And my 'neighbor' was out of town, but I took a photo of his old place. I plan to add it to my album "Little houses on the Prairie" Good potential there, too! It should be cooler next fall too! Temperature got to about 97 degrees farenheit that day. Sunday evening, I made a final ditch effort to find at least one coin for the weekend, so I went out in my own back yard, and after about half hour of pull tabs, beer bottle caps, I finally found a coin!.. A VIDEO GAME token! :(
Been a long weekend..
