California?

Central Coast SLO/Northern SB

Almost 2 years into addiction and no sign of recovery. The wife is getting impatient for investment/return ratio to go right side up. I gotta quit buying new MDs for that to happen (lotta zinc in a F75SE). I am open for a hunting buddy if there are any brave souls in the area (or passing thru?).

Will be coming down to California on Vacation...

...Looking to hook up and meet some people in California and also along the way from Western Canada...

I'm curious as to how the ATPRO's work on the California Beaches... Anyone have experience as such? It's what I'm using at the moment and would like to know what I'm in for..

Also, looking to pick up a Good Sand Scoop (was thinking 'Stealth Sunspot' type Scoop) while I'm there and was hoping that someone might have suggestions as to a good Vendor somewhere in the State?

Any other advice is welcomed and very appreciated!

/Cheers,

The ATPro doesn't work very well in the wet sand but works great in the dry sand on California beaches. I buy most of my stuff online but there is a place in Temecula I think it is call American Prospector and they have sand scoops. Have a good trip.

Hey thanks a Bunch,

Looking forward to getting down there to do some hunting. Not entirely happy that the ATPRO doesn't work well in the Wet Sand however.... I may have to buy another unit while I'm down there if it REALLY doesn't co-operate.

Anyone else?

Cheers,

it doesn't do well in the wet sand? even if you ground balance and turn the sensitivity down?

Local MDs meet in your backyard

Hey guy, ever make the Central Coast Club meetings? The local club meets about 10 minutes from you in the County Education offices opposite Cuesta College on Hwy 1. You and all are welcome to visit or join. If you haven't been to a meeting, give it a look, eh? Web site is cctha.org and all info is there on when and where.

Huntington Beach here. I usually hit the pier just after the sun goes down. Lots of fire pits and volleyball courts. The 4th should be amazing and the US Open for surfing is coming up in the beginning of August! Record breaking crowds, and treasure!!

Hello from the Bay area!! I have an at pro, and it seems to chatter a bit on our beaches as well. Im not a guru so maybe i could tweek the settings a bit, but most our treasures are in the dry stuff since our waters a lil cold. We have a great little Md/ prospecting shop in milpitas if you need anything while in the area!

I'm in an odd situation because I can claim TWO Southern Cal homes. Monday to Friday I live in Santa Monica and detect all around the LA area in the evenings. I work in LA so I have found it is cheaper to live in LA than to commute daily but my permanent residence is in the High Desert city of Hesperia. So on the weekend I hit some of the desert spots and during the week it is parks and beaches in and around LA.

My primary machine is a Whites V3i and I have found that it is a VERY effective machine. I often cover areas that have been well covered by other folks and still come out with good finds. My wife swings an Ace 250 when I can get her to go out at all. She is a little techphobic when it comes to anything with an on/off switch that is not a light, but the 250 works well for her!!

And to whomever it is that is tearing up the local parks I have been going to.........buddy you really need to leave that landscaping shovel at home!! Your bomb craters are causing the rest of us to be banned from most of the parks in the area. If you can't properly plug, stay out of the parks and off of the sports fields before they are completely off limits to all detectorists! And if you need help learning how to plug without leaving any traces just contact me and I will be more than happy to show you. I had someone show me and I will be happy to help someone else that is willing to learn. ;)

The ATP doesnt like wet Cal sand too much thats why I have a PI detector.:D

Thanks that is good to know. I currently swing a V3i and it is a but too much detector to beat up on the Cali beaches near LA. I normally don't cover my parking cost in a 3 hour hunt there so I was about to dump my wife's Ace 250 and get an AT Pro so I could hit the water for something different. My buddy has a Fisher CX20 (I think) and he does much better in the surf. Not to mention you do not have to deal with the rude people, trash, and metal debris on the shore. And there are plenty of each group near the Santa Monica Pier!!! In my humble opinion the LA beaches have plenty of MD activity or folks are broke and don't have jewelry. I have only found junk jewelry and small amounts of change every time and I live in Santa Monica 3 miles from the beach!!

Sigh, now I will now have 3 detectors because the CTX 3030 is far too much to pay until I get right side up on the V3i and Ace 250. But after just over a year I am closing in on break even on the V3i I am happy to say. :D
