TV show about metal detecting in Florida

A show like that will probably have a disclaimer at the start like the survival shows do.

Something like:

Situations are sometimes presented to demonstrate ... blah blah blah...

If not it would end up being about pull tabs, and other junk that know one would watch.

Staged situations may be based on true finds that are recreated for effect, I just don,t see how it could be avoided.

I cant believe there are like 5 metal detecting shows in the works right now...

This hobby is seriously doomed.

I grew up detecting in south florida, and most days i spent more on soda pops and candy bars than i found ,this hobby is not about making money,it is about being outdoors, meeting interesting people, and lasting freindships,oh yea,and the rare chance of finding something that makes you say WOW!!!,dont see you being able to convey the expereance and feelings that most of us have toward the hobby,or how about the people here that find and return rings/jewelry that mean so much to the person that lost it.your not gonna make any freinds here falsly representing this hobby.:cuss:

I am trying to be positive about this and hope it does not ruin our hobby. After 6 years I would hate to find a new hobby I like as much.
Anyway looking ahead, maybe this show will give people a better outlook on mding .If they can show how we ask for permission and that we cover our holes up and remove a lot of trash and have fun at it this would be good.Or show how we spend hours studying history and maps, and our machines. I think a show about finding gold nuggets with a detector would be more glamorous than beach/relic/coin shooting.
Whatever happens I hope they really portray us as a good group of individuals who does care about our hobby and the spaces we hunt. As far as everyone and there brother buying a detector ,that could happen. Hopefully the show has portrayed the correct way of mding and the new mders respect there privilege. Who knows, maybe people let us into some places that we would never be able to go to.
I am afraid it is going to happen regardless of who produces the show. Lets hope they do it right!

As I was reading this thread, I took comfort in thinking, "I'm sure glad that's down in Florida and not around here.". Those guys are only an hour away from me. My first reaction was to be bummed and afraid for the future of this hobby...and then my wife reminded me:
1. Iowa is a big place.
2. No one is nerdy enough to really want to do what I do. :)

In the end, I don't think our hobby will ever go mainstream. Sure there may be an initial surge in people buying equipment, but after the reality of what is involved hits...nah.

Kind of like wanting to be a pilot from watching Top Gun...and then realizing the "boringness" of doing a pre-flight, weight and balance, weather, etc. It's not just kick the tires and light the fires.

Sorry, had to pull up my pants. I'm pulsing  without delay in them right now!
You are off the hook Terry! I like that a lot. I remember the sign just above the urinal at a gas station. "the joke is not here, it is in your hands" Too funny!

TomTV where are you?

I have not seen any post by Tom since his request for input on a video about Florida hunters. I guess he has read a lot of posts but is not commenting. Tom, say something. You have read a lot of opinions here. Even after moving the thread from the main section people still find it and post. You would be a hero with your boss if you saved him a lot of money and did a show in Canada. Check out Clive and others there who are experts. Or, come to Florida and be talked bad about.:lol: Shucks, sorry I said that. :p

I think we scared him or bored him with our posts.

I heard the problem is they are looking for eccentric people. Guys or gals who are on the edge and still metal detect. The people posting in FMDF are not what they want. A guy who detects with a parrot. A gal who is 90 years old and has gold rings to show her finds.

The real hunters who post nice finds regularly are not like that. If you are a normal family type then you are out right away. Get a Parrot.

I'm not normal!

I think a few people on here that I've hunted with would make a great show. Mixing different personalities makes a great show. Two strong personalities would be a nice beginning. How about a (Edited by Admin) to add to the mix that MDs.
