Are any of you detectorist finding many pre 1964 silver coins in Oregon,If so how deep are you finding them,For as much as I hunt and(most of the spots I research and the majority of them have had some sort of long term public occupancy)But still no silver coins found.I use a Mxt and have tried alot of the tweeks to the system it uses,maybe one of you might have a techneque that works for you that you would like to share

Yes...I have found Silver...I would have to say that my deepest has been around 5-6 inches. I live in Pendleton.

Silver is hard to find. There just isn't a lot out there. Depending on where we're at, it's anywhere from surface to 9". lol

Found a 1906 Barber dime a few weeks ago at an old homestead site. But I don't find very many pre '64 coins. Been working a BLM park/campground and have found quite a few early '60s pennies and nickles but no dimes or quarters. I find more silver jewelry than coins.

I have been hunting East of the cascades recently and haven't found any silver coins. I think it has to do with hunting newer parks, location is key. I hunted my kids school here in Klamath Falls that was built in the 20's but still turned up no silver.

I found a Merc at about 4 inches over in Tillamook, and a '42 Washington in Beaverton at abou 2 inches...go figure. As a rule, most of the coins I've dug have been 4 inches or less.

Just got an 1898 barber last weekend at 3-4" in the Hillsboro area

I've been detecting the Portland/Clackamas area since the last week of May 2013 and have yet to find any silver coins. Found only about 5-6 wheat pennies, and some dimes and quarters in the late 60's, 1 1967 quarter and plenty of clad. I hunt a LOT too! I have hunted a number of schools and parks that date back as far as 1920 but just not much luck. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I thought I've learned my AT Pro very well, but am starting to wonder because of my poor luck for the number of hours I spend detecting. I go almost every day for a minimum of 2 hours and for as many as 6 hours.

It is starting to get to me. I've found coins as deep as 10-11 inches as well. The 1967 quarter I found (in my yard!) wasn't anywhere near that deep but it was not a real strong signal but it did hit 90, 88-90 so I thought it might be a silver. Looks like the 7 could be a 3. I have a 1951 quarter that I scanned just to see how it rang up and it hit 90 also. Clad quarters hit a bit lower. Any way I hope you guys are doing well out there!

Found a war nickel at about 2" & a rosie at an 1". Only two silver coins I've found so far??? (SAD)

Heck I found my first gold ring the day before thanksgiving but in 7 months of detecting, 3 weeks with the ctx now and the rest with my AT Pro and I still haven't found my first silver coin!!??!! When I started I told myself I would be a "read detectorist" when I find my first Merc or better. Ive had several 1965 quarters and one was near where another local (pdx) guy found a merc right after I found the 65 wash. I like the older mercs and liberty coins naturally. I don't know why silver is so hard to come by in the PNW.

I have heard many of the silver coins have been between 4-7 inches but sometimes wonder if most sink out of range in our mucky soil.

Finally started finding silver, took two months of using my CTX but then found 5 in one week and 2 more the next, then another dry spell then found 5 more for a total of 12. Now another month long dry spell. Seems when I do find them they come in groups. Most were under 6 inches, 4-5 inches for the most part, one quarter was almost 8". Found 3 Washington Quarters, I think 5 Mercs the rest were Rosies.
