I am a new Safari owner as of two weeks ago. Earlier today I started a new thread in the general forum under "Detectors & Gear/How To Use Your Metal Detector/Safari and Cross Saving" but an after thought was that I should have posted it here in the Minelab Safari Group. So, I am doing that now. Here is what I posted on the forum:
A lot of Safari owners talk about 'Cross Saving,' in fact, Andy Sabisch's book "The Minelab Quattro & Safari Handbook" dedicates nine pages about understanding the audio target ID & target icon options which leads into 'Cross Saving.' After reading everything I can find on the subject I have come to the following conclusion and I'd like to know if any of you agree or have anything to add.
My conclusion is this: All 'Cross Saving' does with the Safari or Quattro is either eliminate icons or add icon depending upon which search mode you choose but it has no effect on the audio. With the Safari, the only advantages of not having icons are (1.) they clutter the LCD Screen (2.) it may speed up the processor and recovery time (3.) by giving the processor a boost the likelihood of a more accurate Target ID is likely.
Of having icons the only advantage is, user preference in identifying the target at the sacrifice of potentially a more accurate processor plus recovery speed.
Does this accurately describe 'Cross Saving' on the Minelab Safari and/or Quattro?
Thanks,
Don
