Hello! I recently joined this group, and I am looking forward to future discussions here. I like the Harbor Freight 9-Function detector because it is affordable, and it works really well for me. While it's not high-end, I have had success with it, and feel it's a fun machine to use.

Looking to buy my first detector. How much success have you had with it?

From my experience, the Harbor Freight 9-Function is a very good beginner machine. It's easy to use and to get to know. I use it as my main detector, and quite enjoy it! (I do not recommend the 6-Function, on which ground-balance must be manually adjusted every few minutes.)

Just picked up my first metal detector yesterday. Went with the HF9, because well, I got the whole setup for free! Hope to learn some things.

That's great! You can't get much better than "free"! I hope you enjoy your new machine. In 2017, I recovered my first nice ring using the HF9. I think it's really a good detector for the price (at times under-rated, perhaps), as both my brother Wolf-Dog and I have made some neat finds and had lots of fun with it.

Hello All!

I was given a HF detector (#67378) by a friend a while ago and have been really impressed with its capabilities so far. I have looked at many of the creative modifications people have made and have started collecting as much reference material as possible. (I've yet to find a schematic out there)

My hopes are to research some of 'unique' characteristics of the detector (e.g. the max pegging of the meter) and document possible tweaks that are reasonably simple and inexpensive.

I welcome any advice and look forward to sharing my findings.
