For the last year I have been using the stock 9" coil with my GTI. I just ordered the 12.5" coil. Hopefully it works the same way, just covering more area and detecting smaller targets deeper than before.

anyone already using the 12 inch coil? Also I noted that Garrett has a DD coil available. Anyone have any experience with this? From the descriptions, the DD coil does not work with the GTI imaging features, so I passed on it. I have grown used to the Imaging, and would miss it.

i don't have the 12.5" but did hear that it misses smaller targets, i'm not sure how small (dime,BB) another reason i didn't opt for the 12.5 was the weight. my wife got me the 11x14 DD which can also be a bear to swing all day, but i think it is a little lighter. downside i don't have the imaging with this coil but i only use this coil in more open fields that hold less trash. i also have a 5" excelerator coil which hits small targets pretty decent but than again i lose the imaging and also with this coil i don't get a depth reading on my display since its an aftermarket coil so i mainly use this coil in trashy parks and for around equipment. but on an average day i just stick with the stock 9" imaging coil.

Last night I went out beach hunting with my new 12.5 coil. I didn't notice any real difference in performance. I could find tiny blue jeans rivets just as easily as with the stock 9" coil.

What I really noticed was that I could scan a lot more area much faster than before. That is a real plus. Downside is that I can also notice the added weight. after two hours of hunting, my arm...and the rest of me... was exhausted. If I am going on an all day hunt, I might switch back the the 9", but typically I only hunt for 2 or three hours at a time, so the 12" coil seems like a winner.

Been wondering about the 12.5 imaging, but still am not sold on it.

i just found a good deal on a like new (only used 2 hours) 12.5" coil so i picked it up for 140 bucks shipped, i really expected it to be much heavier but it doesn't feel too bad, it seems alot more balanced than my 10x14 DD which makes it easier to swing. i haven't put any hours on the 12.5 yet but plan on doing some field hunting with it.
