Hello my fellow Oregonians! I've just recently started metal detecting, mainly have been going in the Oregon City area, Clackamas county parks don't allow metal detecting unfortunately but Oregon city parks do! So far I've only found (besides various other things) 2 2004 nickels and 1 dime that was recent too, all of them were so badly stained from the dirt that they looked more like pennies than they did silver and I haven't been able to make them look much nicer at all. Is it just the soil in this area that would make a nickel or dime look so bad in such a short amount of time? Or is it the fact that they are not made of real silver? I keep seeing video's of people plucking nice shiny silver coins out of the earth, but mine look like rust almost. Any ideas?
