The winter group hunt will be at Brandywine Springs Park in New Castle Delaware. When you google maps the park, it says state park. I can 100% assure you that it is false. There are two Brandywine Springs parks. One is a state park and the other is not. The park google maps shows you is the correct park for our hunt but it is not the state park.
Brandywine Springs Park was an amusement park from 1891-1924. However the ground at which was the amusement park has history all the way back to the Revolutionary War. 12,000 of George Washington's soldiers camped along the Red Clay Creek. Also there was an actual spring located there that brought people from far and wide to feel the "healing" powers of the spring. There also was a hotel on the property that began in 1830.
The park has been hunted hard and I mean real hard. But I know there are still lots to be found. The one time I was there with my AT Pro I managed to find an 1897 Indian Head as well as a couple early wheats. The trick here will be to get into the areas that many others havent tried. Also to go slowly and allow your detector to get to the most likely deeper finds.
Also I have secured our group hunt to be sponsored by New England Detectors. Andrew will provide us with some nice prizes. I am somehow thinking about incorporating those prizes into somehow raffling them off and making the friends of Brandywine Park as the beneficiaries. Also many of you have asked me to start and actual club bearing the Tri State Hunters name. Maybe this will be a platform to start this. We could also make each group hunt we do help a local charity. I would like to get around 6 group hunts in this year.
Brandywine Springs is at the corner of Rt 34 Faulkland Rd and Rt 41 Newport Gap Pike. I would like to begin the hunt at 9am. I am open about food as well. I know Rob aka PaHunter wanted to do something along the lines of a cookout. I am not sure as to what things would be there to support this. We have time to figure that out and I can contact the parks division in Delaware to see about needing a permit for a pavillion if they have one.
Since NED has decided to sponsor this event, I would really like to see at least 30 people show up. We currently have 81 members in this group making us the second largest group on this site. I will ask some of the core members of this group to help me email others in the group as well.
Below are a couple links to help get you aquainted with the hunt site...
